FAQ
What is cold-pressed?
“Cold-pressed” is a method of juice extraction that best protects the integrity of the juice. The powerful hydraulic pressing action gently, but thoroughly, extracts the most nutrients from the fruits and vegetables. This slow process prevents the oxidation of the juice and preserves the vitamins, minerals, live enzymes and other vital micronutrients.
Fresh squeezed juice is made with a centrifugal juicer that uses ultrafast spinning blades to extract the juice. Because the metal blades have to spin so fast, they generate heat and this juice is not as nutritionally potent as our cold-pressed juice.
What causes the juice to settle?
This powerful antioxidant rich sediment is naturally found in juices. Because our products are unpasteurized and do not use additives or preservatives, the settling of sediment is inevitable and completely safe. Before consuming, shake your bottle and enjoy.
What are phytonutrients?
Phytonutrients, also called phytochemicals, are chemicals produced by plants. Plants use phytonutrients to stay healthy. For example, some phytonutrients protect plants from insect attacks, while others protect against radiation from UV rays.
Phytonutrients can also provide significant benefits for humans who eat plant foods. Phytonutrient-rich foods include colorful fruits and vegetables, legumes, nuts, tea, whole grains and many spices. They affect human health but are not considered nutrients that are essential for life, like carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals.
Among the benefits of phytonutrients are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Phytonutrients may also enhance immunity and intercellular communication, repair DNA damage from exposure to toxins, detoxify carcinogens and alter estrogen metabolism. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) notes that consuming a phytonutrient-rich diet seems to be an “effective strategy” for reducing cancer and heart disease risks.
Many phytonutrients give plants their pigments, so a good way to tell if a fruit or vegetable is rich in phytonutrients can be by its color, according to Louis Premkumar, a professor of pharmacology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and author of "Fascinating Facts about Phytonutrients in Spices and Healthy Food" (Xlibris, 2014). Look for deep-hued foods like berries, dark greens, melons and spices. These foods also are rich in flavor and aroma, which makes them more palatable. But some phytonutrient-rich foods have little color, like onions and garlic, and you don’t want to discount them.

WHAT IS A JUICEOLOGIST?
juice‐ol‐o‐gist: noun 1. a juicing expert that makes nutritious and delicious cold-pressed juices!
What is HPP?
HPP is a processing step that extends shelf life and kills at least 99.999% of the microorganisms in juice. This is referred to as a “5 log reduction”.
Here is the process –
Raw juice is made on a juice press, then bottled in plastic bottles. (HPP is not the process of making juice itself, but rather a secondary processing step).
The plastic bottles of juice are loaded into a giant chamber that fills with water and pressurizes the bottles up to 85,000 PSI. To put this pressure in perspective, if you were to tie a rock to a bottle of juice and sink it to the deepest part of the ocean, the Mariana Trench, you would only achieve 1/5th of the pressure created in an HPP machine.
The pressure maintains between one to three minutes, depending on settings, then de-pressurizes.
When the bottles come out the other end, they now contain almost no living microbial content, and now have a shelf life of about to 90 days, instead of raw juice which is normally 3-5 days. The two major benefits are a safer juice product, and that retail stores can keep the juice on their shelf for much longer without it going to waste. Beyond these benefits, it is actually FDA law that juice must undergo a process like HPP or heat pasteurization in order to be distributed wholesale to re-sellers. If the maker is selling direct to consumer, this process is not required.
Nourish cold pressed juice has a shelf life of 75 days, making it possible to ship our healthy and delicious juice to homes, businesses and grocery markets nationally.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF NOURISH COLD PRESSED JUICE?
Nourish has the ability to create a longer shelf life of 75 days, making it possible by the FDA to ship our juice to homes, and wholesale to businesses and grocery markets – making an impact on people’s health nationally….and we already know that our juice never lasts that long on the shelf!!
Our juices are freshly cold-pressed, then introduced into a vessel for High Pressure Processing (HPP). The HPP process guarantees it’s food safety, respects the nutritional properties of the juice and maintains it’s original freshness throughout it’s shelf life. Our juice is never heated and never frozen.
WHY IS YOUR JUICE IN PLASTIC, NOT GLASS?
We love glass bottles, however, we also are not able to use glass for our product line of juices that we wholesale and ship, due to the high pressure that is placed on the bottle during the high pressure processing. The HPP process gives our juice a shelf‐life, which goes under a lengthy validation study, which is costly, but necessary by the FDA in order to sell our juice to local grocery markets, homes and ship to you!
HOW DO I STORE MY JUICE?
All our juices are perishable and require refrigeration of 33 ‐ 38F degrees. If your juice is left unrefrigerated, this will change the taste and nutritional value. We suggest drinking your juice 3 to 5 days after opening.
DOES NOURISH COMPOST?
Giving our food scraps a second life is important. We put all our fruit and veggie waste in our compost bin, along with leaves and straw. We add this compost to our organic kitchen garden for added nutrients and moisture and let nature do it’s thing. Our Nourish team compost up to 7.5 tons a year!
